Requests DOTD to install paved highway shoulders including bicycle paths along US 190 between the town of Livingston and the city of Denham Springs. A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the2 feasability of installing paved highway shoulders with bicycle paths along that3 portion of US Highway 190 between the town of Livingston and the city of Denham4 Springs in Livingston Parish.5 WHEREAS, inadequate shoulders on US Highway 190 between the town of6 Livingston and the city of Denham Springs in Livingston Parish have caused numerous7 vehicular accidents and prevented motor vehicles from utilizing the shoulder to avoid these8 accidents, causing wrecked motor vehicles to be towed or otherwise removed from the9 roadway because of the lack of highway shoulders; and10 WHEREAS, vehicle breakdowns on a highway lacking a highway shoulder create11 a strong possibility of accidents; and12 WHEREAS, a lack of paved shoulders and bicycle paths prevent bicycles from13 utilizing this highway; and14 WHEREAS, the installation of paved highway shoulders with bicycle paths would15 diminish the current public safety hazard and the waiting times necessary to clear accidents,16 as well as enable bicyclists to utilize this stretch of US Highway 190.17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby18 SCR NO. 103 SLS 10RS-3760 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the feasibility1 of installing paved highway shoulders, including bicycle paths, along that portion of US2 Highway 190 between the town of Livingston and the city of Denham Springs in Livingston3 Parish.4 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge5 and request the Department of Transportation and Development to submit a written report6 of its findings and recommendations, including estimated costs, to the Senate and House7 committees on transportation, highways, and public works not later than sixty days prior to8 the beginning of the 2011 Regular Session.9 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the10 secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development.11 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Sharon F.
