Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 103 BY SENATOR ERDEY A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the feasability of installing paved highway shoulders with bicycle paths along that portion of US Highway 190 between the town of Livingston and the city of Denham Springs in Livingston Parish. WHEREAS, inadequate shoulders on US Highway 190 between the town of Livingston and the city of Denham Springs in Livingston Parish have caused numerous vehicular accidents and prevented motor vehicles from utilizing the shoulder to avoid these accidents, causing wrecked motor vehicles to be towed or otherwise removed from the roadway because of the lack of highway shoulders; and WHEREAS, vehicle breakdowns on a highway lacking a highway shoulder create a strong possibility of accidents; and WHEREAS, a lack of paved shoulders and bicycle paths prevent bicycles from utilizing this highway; and WHEREAS, the installation of paved highway shoulders with bicycle paths would diminish the current public safety hazard and the waiting times necessary to clear accidents, as well as enable bicyclists to utilize this stretch of US Highway 190. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to study the feasibility of installing paved highway shoulders, including bicycle paths, along that portion of US Highway 190 between the town of Livingston and the city of Denham Springs in Livingston Parish. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Department of Transportation and Development to submit a written report of its findings and recommendations, including estimated costs, to the Senate and House committees on transportation, highways, and public works not later than sixty days prior to the beginning of the 2011 Regular Session.
