SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 116
BY SENATOR CHEEK 
COMMENDATIONS. Recognizes and honors fallen law enforcement officers and
firefighters who served the state of Louisiana.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To recognize and pay tribute to those fallen police officers and firefighters that have served2
with distinction and have sacrificed their all unselfishly for the sake of others.3
WHEREAS, the people of the state of Louisiana owe a great debt to those brave men4
and women of law enforcement and fire protection whose dedication, courage, and5
commitment to public service sustains an orderly society; and6
WHEREAS, these are the first responders, brave professionals, who are the first to7
arrive at the scenes of fire, accident, or natural disaster, to offer assistance, to administer first8
aid, and to protect life and property at grave peril to themselves; and9
WHEREAS, these unique individuals come from all walks of life, don the uniform10
of their chosen specialty, and become one within the brotherhood of public safety; and11
WHEREAS, each organization upholds a singular oath; policemen swear to protect12
and to serve, while firefighters vow to fight what others fear; and13
WHEREAS, policemen and firefighters protect society through a constant vigil14
performed twenty-four hours per day and seven days per week; and15
WHEREAS, all of Louisiana's law enforcement officers and firefighters merit a most16
sincere measure of commendation for their remarkable dedication to preserving the safety17
and well-being of their fellow citizens; and18 SCR NO. 116

WHEREAS, it is most important that the citizenry of Louisiana be made aware of1
the duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices undertaken by police and firefighters,2
whose collective ranks suffer ten line-of-duty fatalities annually within the state; and3
WHEREAS, in memoriam, Louisiana's fallen firefighters and police officers are4
recognized for their valor, commitment, and public service, and duly noted are the sacrifices5
made by their families as well.6
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby7
recognize and honor the memory of those law enforcement officers and firefighters, slain8
in the line of duty, who have given a full measure of themselves to protect the life and9
property of others.10
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby11
commend all law enforcement and fire protection personnel for their noble calling, and does12
further express to them the enduring appreciation of the people of the state of Louisiana.13
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the14
Professional Firefighters Association of Louisiana and the Louisiana Union of Police15
Association.16
