A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To designate April 26, 2010, as "MADD Day" at the legislature.2 WHEREAS, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, "MADD", was founded in 1980 and3 since its inception alcohol-related traffic fatalities have decreased nearly fifty percent and4 the organization has helped to save over three hundred eighty-three thousand lives; and5 WHEREAS, on average someone is killed by a drunk driver every forty-five minutes;6 and7 WHEREAS, in 2008, an estimated eleven thousand seven hundred seventy-three8 people died in drunk-driving related crashes which represents a decline of almost ten percent9 from the number of drunk driving related fatalities in 2007; and10 WHEREAS, in 2007, Louisiana took a stand against drunk driving by enacting11 legislation requiring ignition interlock devices for all convicted drunk drivers; and12 WHEREAS, MADD hosts many major local efforts to promote the fight against13 drunk driving in the state of Louisiana, and will be hosting their next event, "Walk Like14 MADD", on May 1, 2010, at the Louisiana State University Campus in Baton Rouge; and15 WHEREAS, the Legislature of Louisiana recognizes the important role that MADD16 plays in educating and advocating about the perils of those who chose to drive while17 impaired on the roads of Louisiana.18 SCR NO. 44 SLS 10RS-1710 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby1 designate April 26, 2010, as "MADD Day" at the legislature.2 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the3 executive director of the Louisiana Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.4 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Greg Waddell.
