SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 44
BY SENATOR MOUNT 
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To designate April 26, 2010, as "MADD Day" at the legislature.
WHEREAS, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, "MADD", was founded in 1980 and
since its inception alcohol-related traffic fatalities have decreased nearly fifty percent and
the organization has helped to save over three hundred eighty-three thousand lives; and
WHEREAS, on average someone is killed by a drunk driver every forty-five minutes;
and
WHEREAS, in 2008, an estimated eleven thousand seven hundred seventy-three
people died in drunk-driving related crashes which represents a decline of almost ten percent
from the number of drunk driving related fatalities in 2007; and
WHEREAS, in 2007, Louisiana took a stand against drunk driving by enacting
legislation requiring ignition interlock devices for all convicted drunk drivers; and
WHEREAS, MADD hosts many major local efforts to promote the fight against
drunk driving in the state of Louisiana, and will be hosting their next event, "Walk Like
MADD", on May 1, 2010, at the Louisiana State University Campus in Baton Rouge; and
WHEREAS, the Legislature of Louisiana recognizes the important role that MADD
plays in educating and advocating about the perils of those who chose to drive while
impaired on the roads of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
designate April 26, 2010, as "MADD Day" at the legislature.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
executive director of the Louisiana Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving.
