SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 55
BY SENATOR WALSWORTH 
MOTOR VEHICLES. Authorizes and directs the Department of Public Safety and
Corrections to produce and issue "Louisiana Bicentennial 1812-2012" license plates for
private passenger motor vehicles.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To authorize and direct the Department of Public Safety and Corrections to imprint2
"Louisiana Bicentennial 1812-2012" on the license plates for private passenger3
motor vehicles and to issue such plates not later than January 3, 2011, through4
December 31, 2012, or until the Department of Public Safety and Corrections5
depletes its inventory of such plates.6
WHEREAS, on April 12, 1812, Louisiana was admitted by Congress as the7
eighteenth state in the Union; and 8
WHEREAS, Senate Bill No. 558 of the 2010 Regular Session of the Legislature of9
Louisiana by Senator Walsworth and Representative Tucker recognizes that the year 201210
marks the anniversary of Louisiana's two hundred years as a state; and11
WHEREAS, Senate Bill 558 proposes to create the Louisiana Bicentennial12
Commission within the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism for the purpose of13
leading the state to commemorate and celebrate the anniversary of Louisiana's two hundred14
years as a state; and15
 WHEREAS, the Legislature of Louisiana further recognizes that, as the state16
approaches its bicentennial of statehood, it is appropriate to celebrate and commemorate this17
anniversary through local and statewide observances and activities planned, encouraged,18 SCR NO. 55

coordinated, and conducted by a commission created for such purposes; and1
WHEREAS, one of the specific charges of the commission is to encourage state2
agencies to develop bicentennial programs, such as the creation of a commemorative3
automobile license plate.4
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby5
authorize and direct the Department of Public Safety and Corrections to imprint Louisiana6
license plates for private passenger motor vehicles with a design proposed by the Louisiana7
Bicentennial Commission, which design shall include the official logo of the bicentennial8
in the center of the plate, thereby replacing the pelican imprint, and "Louisiana Bicentennial9
1803-2003" on the bottom of the plate, thereby replacing the words "Sportsman's Paradise"10
and which retains Louisiana in red on the top of the plate, and on which shall be provided11
space for the yearly validation sticker at the bottom right-hand corner.12
 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the license plate described herein, which shall13
require no additional state funding, shall be an official license plate.14
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Public Safety and Corrections15
shall begin imprinting the plates at such time and on such a schedule as necessary to allow16
for issuance of the "Louisiana Bicentennial 1812-2012" license plate for private passenger17
motor vehicles beginning not later than January 3, 2011, and shall continue issuing such18
plates through December 31, 2012, or until the Department of Public Safety and Corrections19
depletes its inventory of such plates, whichever is later.20
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that on or after December 31, 2012, or after the21
Department of Public Safety and Corrections depletes its inventory of such plates, whichever22
is later, the department shall cease issuing the "Louisiana Bicentennial 1812-2012" license23
plate and the design of the standard Louisiana license plate shall revert to the design which24
received legislative approval as required in R.S. 47:463(A)(3) through passage of SCR No.25
196 of the 1992 Regular Session of the Legislature.26
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the27
secretary of the Department of Public Safety and Corrections.28 SCR NO. 55

Louisiana Bicentennial Commission. Provides that the department shall begin issuing the
plate not later than January 3, 2011, and continue to issue the plates through December 31,
2012, or until the inventory of such plates shall be depleted, whichever is later. Provides that
after December 31, 2012, the license plate design shall revert to the design which received
legislative approval as required in R.S. 47:463(A)(3) through passage of SCR No. 196 of the
1992 Regular Session of the Legislature.
