SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 65
BY SENATOR NEVERS 
TEACHERS. Recognizes September 2010 as Parent Teacher Association Month in
Louisiana.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To recognize September 2010 as Parent Teacher Association Month in Louisiana, to2
commend those involved in their schools and communities, and to encourage school3
and community participation.4
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has demonstrated more5
than eighty years of dedication in promoting parental and public involvement in schools and6
communities; and7
WHEREAS, since its founding in 1923, the purpose of the PTA has been to promote8
the welfare of children and youth in homes, schools, communities, and places of worship,9
to raise the standards of home life, and to encourage a closer relationship between the home10
and the school so that parents and teachers may cooperate more intelligently in the education11
of children and youth; and12
WHEREAS, the Louisiana PTA also promotes united efforts by educators and the13
general public that will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical,14
mental, social, and spiritual education; and15
WHEREAS, research results provide substantial evidence that children whose16
families provide a caring and supportive environment and whose families are actively17
involved in their schools have a higher probability of personal and academic success; and18 SCR NO. 65

WHEREAS, statistics also show that the most highly successful schools are those1
with the most active parents and community involvement; and2
WHEREAS, parent and teacher cooperation in public schools contributes3
significantly to the opportunities for all of our children to be successful in school and better4
prepares Louisiana's pupils for the job market of the twenty-first century; and5
WHEREAS, more than forty thousand parents, grandparents, educators, and other6
community members have enlisted as active members of the Louisiana PTA in the numerous7
local associations throughout Louisiana.8
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby9
recognize September 2010 as Parent Teacher Association Month in Louisiana.10
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislature commends parents, grandparents,11
and other citizens who have been involved in their schools and communities.12
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislature encourages the participation of13
parents and community volunteers in every school and community across the state to provide14
children and youth with a healthy and productive learning environment.15
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the16
president of the Louisiana Parent Teacher Association.17
