SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 65

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To recognize September 2010 as Parent Teacher Association Month in Louisiana, to
commend those involved in their schools and communities, and to encourage school
and community participation.
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Parent Teacher Association (PTA) has demonstrated more
than eighty years of dedication in promoting parental and public involvement in schools and
communities; and
WHEREAS, since its founding in 1923, the purpose of the PTA has been to promote
the welfare of children and youth in homes, schools, communities, and places of worship,
to raise the standards of home life, and to encourage a closer relationship between the home
and the school so that parents and teachers may cooperate more intelligently in the education
of children and youth; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana PTA also promotes united efforts by educators and the
general public that will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical,
mental, social, and spiritual education; and
WHEREAS, research results provide substantial evidence that children whose
families provide a caring and supportive environment and whose families are actively
involved in their schools have a higher probability of personal and academic success; and
WHEREAS, statistics also show that the most highly successful schools are those
with the most active parents and community involvement; and
WHEREAS, parent and teacher cooperation in public schools contributes
significantly to the opportunities for all of our children to be successful in school and better
prepares Louisiana's pupils for the job market of the twenty-first century; and SCR NO. 65	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, more than forty thousand parents, grandparents, educators, and other
community members have enlisted as active members of the Louisiana PTA in the numerous
local associations throughout Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
recognize September 2010 as Parent Teacher Association Month in Louisiana.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislature commends parents, grandparents,
and other citizens who have been involved in their schools and communities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislature encourages the participation of
parents and community volunteers in every school and community across the state to provide
children and youth with a healthy and productive learning environment.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
president of the Louisiana Parent Teacher Association.
