SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 106
BY SENATOR CHEEK 
COMMENDATIONS.  Recognizes Thursday, June 3, 2010, as Girl Scouts of the USA Day
at the Louisiana State Capitol.
A RESOLUTION1
To recognize Thursday, June 3, 2010, as Girl Scouts of the USA Day at the Louisiana State2
Capitol.3
WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA is the world's largest preeminent organization4
dedicated solely to all girls everywhere helping build character and gain skills for success5
in the real world; and 6
WHEREAS, in 2009-2010, the Louisiana Girl Scout Councils served almost7
thirty-six thousand girls in six program levels; and8
WHEREAS, we honor the Girl Scout's ninety-eighth anniversary and Juliette Gordon9
Lowe, the founder of Girl Scouts in 1912; and 10
WHEREAS, founded on March 12, 1912, in Savannah, Georgia, by Juliette Gordon11
Lowe, Girl Scouts' membership has grown to nearly four million members throughout the12
United States and around the world; and13
WHEREAS, we recognize and commend the two Girl Scout Councils of Louisiana;14
The Girl Scouts of Louisiana - Pines to the Gulf and Girl Scouts Louisiana East; and 15
WHEREAS, through the Girl Scouts of the USA, girls can see the world and their16
place in it by learning the importance of personal responsibility, the value of goal-setting,17
the spirit of teamwork, and the thrill of accomplishment; and18 SR NO. 106

WHEREAS, throughout its distinguished history, Girl Scouting has welcomed girls1
and women from every background to join, and has inspired them with courage, confidence,2
and character to make the world a better place; and3
WHEREAS, the Girl Scout program is based on four fundamental goals that4
encourage girls to develop to their full potential; relate to others with increasing5
understanding, skill, and respect; develop a meaningful set of values to guide their actions6
and to provide for sound decision making; and contribute to the improvement of society; and7
WHEREAS, through the guidance of trained adults, girls between the ages of five8
and seventeen are offered a variety of opportunities to explore numerous topics, including9
leadership, math, science, technology, health, fitness, sports, environmental education, the10
arts, and global awareness; and11
WHEREAS, the Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest national award in Girl12
Scouting, with national standards, it represents girls' time, leadership, creativity and effort13
contributed to making their community better, and young women who have earned the 201014
Girl Scout Gold Award and have become community leaders are: Lindsey Vallot, Lafayette;15
Ashley Boykin and Lauren Brown, Shreveport; Bonnie Moody, Leesville; Wendy Kussmann16
, Lake Charles; Charlene O'Neill, Ragley; Leigh Griffin, Destrehan; Gillian Maris Jones,17
New Orleans; Sarah Mathews, Mandeville; and Mandy McNamara, Destrehan; and18
WHEREAS, during the past ninety-eight years, over fifty-five million American19
women have participated in Girl Scouting, and this enduring tradition continues to20
strengthen individual communities and our society as a whole.21
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana22
does hereby recognize Thursday, June 3, 2010, as Girl Scouts of the USA Day at the23
Louisiana State Capitol, does hereby commend the organization for its many contributions24
and continued dedication to girls in the USA and around the world, and does hereby25
welcome members of the Girl Scouts of the USA as they visit the capitol on this special and26
memorable occasion.27
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be submitted to the28
Girl Scouts of the USA and to Girl Scout Councils in Louisiana.29 SR NO. 106
