SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 139
BY SENATOR N. GAUTREAUX 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Ryan O'Neill Poche' of Erath High School upon his
selection as an alternate from Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend and congratulate Ryan O'Neill Poche' upon his selection as an alternate from2
Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress in Los Angeles,3
California.4
WHEREAS, Ryan O'Neill Poche', a sophomore from Erath High School, attended5
the Louisiana Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana,6
June 4 - 6, 2010, joined by one hundred twenty-one participants from high schools around7
the state; and8
 WHEREAS, at training seminars Ryan O'Neill Poche' and other young leaders9
discussed core values inspired by the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program (HOBY) that10
include an appreciation for diversity of cultures, the positive social impact of volunteer11
activities, and the need for activism within every community; and12
WHEREAS, HOBY was established in 1958 by screen actor, Hugh O'Brian,13
following his visit to Africa, where he met with famed physician and humanitarian,14
Dr. Albert Schweitzer, and was so influenced by the doctor's work that he founded the15
organization and designed it to encourage young people to take on roles of leadership within16
their communities; and17
WHEREAS, HOBY espouses the idea that the most important tenet in education is18 SR NO. 139

to teach young people to think for themselves, and now the organization boasts an alumni1
of more than three hundred thousand former participants; and2
WHEREAS, Ryan O'Neill Poche' was chosen as an alternate to represent Louisiana3
at this year's Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress, to be held July 23 - 30, 2010, on4
the campus of the University of California (UCLA), in Los Angeles; and5
WHEREAS, at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress students learn6
firsthand about other cultures, express opinions, form friendships, and exchange ideas in a7
comfortable environment; and8
WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress seeks to inspire high9
school students to excel as leaders, using friendship as a catalyst in their learning experience.10
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of Legislature of Louisiana does11
hereby commend and congratulate Ryan O'Neill Poche' upon his selection as an alternate for12
Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress in Los Angeles, and does hereby13
recognize the pride and honor that this wonderful young man has brought to his family,14
friends, community, and the state of Louisiana.15
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to16
Ryan O'Neill Poche'.17
