SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 140
BY SENATOR N. GAUTREAUX 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Abigail Marie Yesso of Vanderbilt Catholic High School
upon her selection as a representative of Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brien World Leadership
Congress.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Abigail Marie Yesso of Vanderbilt Catholic High School upon her selection2
as a representative of Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress in3
Los Angeles, California.4
WHEREAS, Abigail Marie Yesso, a sophomore from Vanderbilt Catholic High5
School in Houma, Louisiana, attended the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership Seminar held in6
Baton Rouge, on June 4 - 6, 2010, joined by one hundred twenty-one participants from high7
schools around the state; and8
 WHEREAS, at training seminars Abigail Marie Yesso and other young leaders9
discussed core values inspired by the Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership program (HOBY) that10
include an appreciation for diversity of cultures, the positive social impact of volunteer11
activities, and the need for activism within every community; and12
WHEREAS, HOBY was established in 1958 by screen actor, Hugh O'Brian,13
following his visit to Africa, where he met with famed physician and humanitarian,14
Dr. Albert Schweitzer, and was so influenced by the doctor's work that he founded the15
organization and designed it to encourage young people to take on roles of leadership within16
their communities; and17
WHEREAS, HOBY espouses the idea that the most important tenet in education is18 SR NO. 140

to teach young people to think for themselves, and now the organization boasts an alumni1
of more than three hundred thousand former participants; and2
WHEREAS, Abigail Marie Yesso was chosen to be a representative of Louisiana at3
this year's Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress, to be held July 23 - 30, 2010, on the4
campus of the University of California (UCLA), in Los Angeles; and5
WHEREAS, at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress students learn6
firsthand about other cultures, express opinions, form friendships, and exchange ideas in a7
comfortable environment; and8
WHEREAS, the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress seeks to inspire high9
school students to excel as leaders, using friendship as a catalyst in their learning experience.10
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of Legislature of Louisiana does11
hereby commend and congratulate Abigail Marie Yesso upon her selection as a12
representative for Louisiana at the Hugh O'Brian World Leadership Congress in13
Los Angeles, and does hereby recognize the pride and honor that this wonderful young14
woman has brought to her family, friends, community, and the state of Louisiana.15
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to16
Abigail Marie Yesso. 17
