SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 141
BY SENATOR MURRAY 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends LSU Health Sciences Center School of Allied Health
Professions for 40 years of exemplary health care education.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Allied Health2
Professions for forty years of exemplary health care education in the professions of3
audiology, cardiovascular technology, clinical laboratory sciences, occupational4
therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation counseling, respiratory therapy, and5
speech-language pathology.6
WHEREAS, on April 2, 1970, the Louisiana State University Board of Supervisors7
approved a request by the Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans to8
establish a School of Allied Health Professions; and9
WHEREAS, at its founding, the School of Allied Health Professionals was the fifth10
school within the Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans; and11
WHEREAS, the School of Allied Health Professions became operational on July 1,12
1970, and its first class of students was in 1971; and13
WHEREAS, the School of Allied Health Professions has graduated more than six14
thousand health care providers, and these graduates have achieved a ninety-seven percent15
passing rate on professional licensure examinations; and16
WHEREAS, the School of Allied Health Professions provides education in eight17
health care fields: audiology, cardiovascular technology, clinical laboratory sciences,18 SR NO. 141

occupational therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation counseling, respiratory therapy, and1
speech-language pathology; and2
WHEREAS, the School of Allied Health Professions also includes the Human3
Development Center, a member of a national network of sixty-seven University Centers for4
Excellence in Developmental Disabilities Education, Research, and Service; and5
WHEREAS, the mission of the School of Allied Health Professions in New Orleans6
is to provide educational programs for students enrolled in the allied health disciplines, to7
contribute to the body of knowledge in the allied health sciences through research and8
scholarship, and to provide patient care and community outreach of the highest quality for9
the citizens of Louisiana; and10
WHEREAS, in the spring of 2010, the School of Allied Health Professions had their11
highest student enrollment, with four hundred four students, in the past forty years; and12
WHEREAS, student enrollment at the School of Allied Health Professions has13
increased by fifty-one percent since the spring of 2005 and sixty-three percent since the14
spring of 2006; and15
WHEREAS, student applicants to the School of Allied Health Professions have16
increased by twenty-four percent since 2005 and one hundred twenty-three percent since17
2006; and18
WHEREAS, the faculty of the School of Allied Health Professions continues to19
expand the body of research in the areas of clinical laboratory sciences, speech-language20
pathology, audiology, respiratory therapy, and rehabilitation counseling; and21
WHEREAS, the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of Allied22
Health Professions merits a special measure of commendation for the tremendous honor and23
pride that this fine institution brings to its faculty, staff, and students, the city of New24
Orleans, the Louisiana State University System, and the state of Louisiana.25
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana26
does hereby commend the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center School of27
Allied Health Professions for forty years of exemplary health care education and does hereby28
extend best wishes for the school's continued success in the future.29
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the30 SR NO. 141
