Commends the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation and the foundation's Executive Director, Dr. Ken Ward, for dedicated service to members of the Senate and citizens of Louisiana. A RESOLUTION1 To commend the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation and the foundation's Executive2 Director, Dr. Ken Ward, for dedicated service to members of the Senate and citizens3 of Louisiana.4 WHEREAS, Louisiana is blessed with many organizations whose purpose is to aid5 and assist those who contribute and work to make Louisiana a better place in which to live;6 and7 WHEREAS, one of these organizations is the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation,8 organized in September of 1942, to help people of all faiths and no faith to work together to9 make a better Louisiana; and10 WHEREAS, the current Executive Director of the Louisiana Moral and Civic11 Foundation, Dr. Ken Ward, has served the foundation, since January 1,1976, and diligently12 works to keep well informed and available to address issues of ethics and morality; and13 WHEREAS, both the foundation and Dr. Ward are regarded by many members of14 the Louisiana Legislature as role models for other organizations seeking to positively impact15 the legislature in the areas of moral and social concerns; and16 WHEREAS, past resolutions of the Senate as well as previous governors have17 described the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation as an institution within the institution18 SR NO. 143 SLS 10RS-5380 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 3 of the legislature, advocating moral and ethical behavior; and1 WHEREAS, Dr. Ward received his doctor of philosophy from Louisiana State2 University and completed his dissertation in the area of legislative ethics, is recognized in3 Louisiana as one of the foremost ethicist in the state; and currently serves the House of4 Representatives as legislative ethicist and coordinator of chaplain services; and5 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation does not represent any6 particular religious denomination or organization, but has proven to be a reliable and trusted7 resource for members of the legislature, relative to the declared positions of religious groups8 and organizations that may advocate varying positions on moral and ethical issues; and9 WHEREAS, for over three decades of experience in monitoring and interacting with10 members of the Louisiana Legislature and others who participate in the legislative process,11 Dr. Ward has been and continues to be called upon by members of the legislature to provide12 information and analysis on complex and controversial ethical and moral issues that may13 otherwise have gone unresolved but for the experience and skills gained by Dr. Ward14 through his preparation, experiences and genuine respect for the legislative process.15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Louisiana Legislature does16 hereby commend and express appreciation to the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation and17 to the foundation's Executive Director, Dr. Ken Ward, for being available to the members18 of the Senate and for dedicated service rendered to the citizens of Louisiana.19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of the Louisiana Senate pledge to20 continue working with the Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation in keeping the21 commitment made over sixty-five years ago, by the founders of the Louisiana Moral and22 Civic Foundation, to help all people work together to make a better Louisiana.23 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the24 Louisiana Moral and Civic Foundation and their Executive Director, Dr. Ken Ward.25 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Jerry J.
