Declares Tuesday, April 27, 2010, Military Family Day in the Louisiana Senate in honor of Louisiana's military service men and women, and in particular, in honor of its fallen heroes. A RESOLUTION1 To declare Tuesday, April 27, 2010, Military Family Day in the Louisiana Senate in honor2 of America's military personnel, and in particular, in honor of Louisiana's fallen3 heroes.4 WHEREAS, Louisiana has provided significant military manpower in America's5 Global War On Terrorism; and6 WHEREAS, on March 5, 2010, Louisiana began deployment of the 256 th Infantry7 Brigade, one of the premier national guard units in America, to Operation Iraqi Freedom for8 a second tour of duty there; and9 WHEREAS, the 256 th Infantry Brigade served with great courage and distinction10 during its 2004-2005 deployment to Iraq, engaging enemy forces like no other guard unit11 before it, at a cost of thirty-two soldiers lost in the fighting; and12 WHEREAS, Louisiana continues to send its individual armed forces personnel and13 national guard units to the Iraqi and Afghan Theaters and into harm's way; and14 WHEREAS, Louisiana has participated heavily in Iraq, Afghanistan and other world15 hot spots, sending assets, both personnel and material, to stop the terrorist threat posed there16 by those who would harm America and her people; and17 WHEREAS, Louisiana has a proud tradition of active participation in this country's18 SR NO. 28 SLS 10RS-573 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 fights for freedom, the many battles for liberty and the unending struggle for democracy;1 and2 WHEREAS, the Louisiana Senate has recognized and praised those who serve and3 has honored each of its fallen soldiers with a Condolence Resolution so that no one will ever4 forget their outstanding service and sacrifice in the war on terrorism, in Iraq, Afghanistan,5 and elsewhere; and6 WHEREAS, it is entirely appropriate that the upper chamber of the Louisiana7 Legislature extends an invitation to the families of those who serve and of those who have8 fallen to be the guests of the state of Louisiana and the Louisiana Senate for a day of9 recognition and honor.10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana11 does hereby declare Tuesday, April 27, 2010, Military Family Day in the Senate in order to12 honor all American military personnel, and in particular to properly honor Louisiana's fallen13 soldiers and their families.14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to each15 family represented in the ceremony.16 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Heyward Jeffers.
