A RESOLUTION1 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the2 death of Howell Dickson "Dick" Levy.3 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4 Senate have learned of the death of Howell Dickson "Dick" Levy on Friday, April 9, 2010;5 and6 WHEREAS, he was the only child of M. Howell and Utha Levy and was born in7 Shreveport on October 7, 1952; and8 WHEREAS, he was a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School in 1970 and continued his9 education at the University of Mississippi, where he earned a B.S. degree in Biology and10 became a devoted Ole Miss Rebel fan; and11 WHEREAS, while at Ole Miss, he met his loving wife, Belinda Powell Levy, and12 the two were married on May 31, 1975; and13 WHEREAS, he utilized his education and pursued a career in pharmaceutical sales,14 enjoying twenty-one successful years with Glaxo SmithKline, serving as Regional Sales15 Trainer, Regional Mentor, and Regional Representative to the National Advisory Board, and16 earning numerous awards and commendations; and17 WHEREAS, his compassionate nature led him to pursue a degree in nursing at18 SR NO. 53 SLS 10RS-1654 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 Northwestern State University, where he graduated with honors in 2005; and1 WHEREAS, he began caring for others at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport,2 earning him the friendship and respect of his co-workers, physicians, nurses, pharmacists,3 and members of their extended staff; and4 WHEREAS, a man who enjoyed his career, his friends and loved ones, tailgating in5 "The Grove" and attending Ole Miss football games, found nothing he cherished more than6 his family; and7 WHEREAS, throughout his battle with brain cancer, he remained brave and never8 lost his sense of humor; and9 WHEREAS, he is preceded in death by his parents, M. Howell and Utha Levy, and10 nephew Jay Powell; and11 WHEREAS, he is survived by Linda, his loving wife of thirty-four years; his sons12 David and Phillip; his daughter Sarah and her fiancé Ryan Breedlove; and13 WHEREAS, he will be remembered as a husband, father, and friend who kept people14 laughing, who welcomed everyone into his home, no matter what team they rooted for, and15 who enriched the lives of those around him with his love and compassion.16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana17 does hereby express its sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Howell Dickson18 "Dick" Levy.19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the20 family of Howell Dickson "Dick" Levy.21 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by McHenry Lee.
