Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 53 BY SENATOR SHAW A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of Howell Dickson "Dick" Levy. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the Senate have learned of the death of Howell Dickson "Dick" Levy on Friday, April 9, 2010; and WHEREAS, he was the only child of M. Howell and Utha Levy and was born in Shreveport on October 7, 1952; and WHEREAS, he was a graduate of C.E. Byrd High School in 1970 and continued his education at the University of Mississippi, where he earned a B.S. degree in Biology and became a devoted Ole Miss Rebel fan; and WHEREAS, while at Ole Miss, he met his loving wife, Belinda Powell Levy, and the two were married on May 31, 1975; and WHEREAS, he utilized his education and pursued a career in pharmaceutical sales, enjoying twenty-one successful years with Glaxo SmithKline, serving as Regional Sales Trainer, Regional Mentor, and Regional Representative to the National Advisory Board, and earning numerous awards and commendations; and WHEREAS, his compassionate nature led him to pursue a degree in nursing at Northwestern State University, where he graduated with honors in 2005; and WHEREAS, he began caring for others at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, earning him the friendship and respect of his co-workers, physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and members of their extended staff; and WHEREAS, a man who enjoyed his career, his friends and loved ones, tailgating in "The Grove" and attending Ole Miss football games, found nothing he cherished more than his family; and WHEREAS, throughout his battle with brain cancer, he remained brave and never SR NO. 53 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 lost his sense of humor; and WHEREAS, he is preceded in death by his parents, M. Howell and Utha Levy, and nephew Jay Powell; and WHEREAS, he is survived by Linda, his loving wife of thirty-four years; his sons David and Phillip; his daughter Sarah and her fiancé Ryan Breedlove; and WHEREAS, he will be remembered as a husband, father, and friend who kept people laughing, who welcomed everyone into his home, no matter what team they rooted for, and who enriched the lives of those around him with his love and compassion. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express its sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Howell Dickson "Dick" Levy. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the family of Howell Dickson "Dick" Levy. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
