SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 57
BY SENATOR GUILLORY 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Anna Normand on being named a Udall Scholar.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend and congratulate Anna Normand of Opelousas, Louisiana, upon her selection2
as a Udall Scholar for 2010.3
WHEREAS, as promising junior in the Honors College at Louisiana State University,4
Anna Normand, is the recipient of the Morris K. Udall and Stewart L. Udall Foundation5
Scholarship; and6
WHEREAS, Ms. Normand, a chemistry major, intends to earn an Bachelor of7
Science degree in May 2011, then pursue post graduate studies in environmental science,8
with concentrations in research and public policy; and9
WHEREAS, her career focus is in environmental public service, well founded in10
coastal protection and wetlands restoration; and11
WHEREAS, Anna has participated in two student-based public service activities:12
Louisiana Marsh University, a service trip that brought LSU students to plant beach grass13
on Grand Isle, and Acorns for Hope, a bike ride across the state to plant live oak saplings;14
and15
WHEREAS, Anna's extracurricular activities at LSU include participation as area16
chairperson for Civic and Social Awareness for Volunteer LSU, mentor and research scholar17
in LA-STEM Research Scholars Program, service officer in LSU Army Scotch Guard, and18 SR NO. 57

a member of LSU Mortar Board; and1
WHEREAS, Anna Normand has learned, firsthand, the severe affects of hurricanes2
on South Louisiana due to coastal erosion and loss of barrier islands; and3
WHEREAS, she has volunteered for hurricane relief efforts, created supply drives4
and distribution centers; and5
WHEREAS, in 1992, the Morris K. Udall Scholarship and Excellence in National6
Environmental Policy Foundation was authorized by Congress to honor Representative7
Udall, whose legacy of thirty years of public service as a congressman from Arizona8
provided leadership on national environmental issues and supported increased tribal9
self-government for Native Americans and Alaskan Natives; and10
WHEREAS, the foundation is supported by a trust fund in the U.S. Treasury and11
private sector contributions and, since 1996, has honored one thousand one hundred fifty-12
five Udall Scholars; and13
WHEREAS, Anna Normand has displayed a commitment to academic achievement14
and a future career in environmental issues with tremendous leadership potential; and15
WHEREAS, Anna Normand is an outstanding scholar and an exceptional individual16
whose future holds great promise.17
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana18
does hereby commend and congratulate Anna Normand upon her selection as a 2010 Udall19
Scholar.20
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to LSU21
student, Anna Normand.22
