SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 66

CONDOLENCES.  Extends condolences on the death of George Ernest Reine III.
A RESOLUTION1
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the2
death of George Ernest Reine III.3
WHEREAS, it is with great sorrow and sadness and a sense of profound loss that the4
Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana and the citizens of Louisiana extend sincere5
condolences upon learning of the death of George Ernest Reine III, age sixty-four; and6
WHEREAS, George Ernest Reine III was born to George E. Reine Jr., and Bertha7
Miller Reine, was a native of Mandeville, and a lifelong resident of Slidell, Louisiana; and8
WHEREAS, George Ernest Reine III was a dedicated citizen of Louisiana, who9
worked tirelessly on a multitude of business, civic, political, and religious causes throughout10
his life; and11
WHEREAS, this extraordinary man clearly demonstrated during his life his12
dedication to his family, job, community, state, and his country; and13
WHEREAS, his numerous accomplishments in public and private life reflected his14
bravery, heroism, compassion, and commitment to others; and15
WHEREAS, he was the owner and operator of Summit Contractors, Inc., of Slidell,16
Louisiana; and17
WHEREAS, George E. Reine III was a second-generation contractor having over18 SR NO. 66

forty years of expertise in construction and land development, constructing over four1
thousand residential homes, local neighborhoods, and commercial buildings and personally2
donating the entire grounds on which Clearwood Junior High School was built; and3
WHEREAS, through his diligent work he served his community, as a former board4
member and past president of the Slidell Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of the5
United Way, past chairman of the Boy Scouts of America Fund Raising Campaign, and past6
school board member of Pope John Paul High School; and7
WHEREAS, George Ernest Reine III served on two local bank boards and helped8
charter the St. Tammany Home Builders Association (STHBA) which now has over one9
thousand members, he was the first Senior Life National Director with the National10
Association of Homebuilders from the STHBA who was awarded after twenty-five years of11
service, he was a past board member of the New Orleans Home Builders Association,12
member of the sales and marketing council of the National Home Builders Association13
(NHBA), past chairman of the STHBA Parade of Homes, a member of the Land14
Development Council of the NHBA, and he created and organized the first Trade Fair for15
the Chamber of Commerce in 1978; and16
WHEREAS, as a lifelong resident of St. Tammany Parish, his community17
involvements included major support for the St. Tammany Association for Retarded18
Citizens, St. Tammany Economic Development Foundation, Miami Project to Cure19
Paralysis, American Diabetic Association, American Heart Association, Safe Harbor20
Program for Battered Women, and Easter Seals; and21
WHEREAS, in 1983, he was chosen King Samaritan XXXIV for the Slidell22
Women's Civic Club for his commitment and involvement in the community, and in 1981,23
he and his wife, Diane, were chosen King and Queen XI of the Krewe of Perseus; and24
WHEREAS, George Ernest Reine III was a loving and devoted and beloved husband25
of Diane Parker Reine for forty-three years, and a committed and cherished son, brother,26
father, grandfather, uncle, and cousin whose love of family was of utmost importance in his27
life; and28
WHEREAS, upon his death the world lost a unique individual who left an indelible29
mark upon his community and the lives of all those who knew him; and30 SR NO. 66

WHEREAS, the success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of our communities,1
and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure on dedicated men like2
George Ernest Reine III.3
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana4
does hereby extend its sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of George Ernest5
Reine III.6
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the7
family of George Ernest Reine III.8
