Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2010 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 97 BY SENATOR AMEDEE A RESOLUTION To commend Alexander Charles Adams of Vacherie, Louisiana on his admission to the American Chapter of Mensa International. WHEREAS, at the age of thirteen, Alexander Adams was admitted into the American Chapter of Mensa, International; and WHEREAS, founded in England in 1946 by Roland Berrill and Dr. Lance Ware, Mensa is the largest and oldest high-IQ society in the world; and WHEREAS, Mensa is composed of national groups under the umbrella of Mensa International with the single qualification of a high IQ; and WHEREAS, to qualify for Mensa, applicants must possess scores at or above one hundred thirty on any one of the more than two hundred accepted, standardized intelligence tests including an admissions test; and WHEREAS, Alex Adams is one of approximately eight other secondary education students in South Louisiana who are members of Mensa; and WHEREAS, members of Mensa come from all walks of life, ranging in age from two to one hundred and six, and include engineers, homemakers, teachers, actors, athletes, students, and corporate executives, who share the common trait of high intelligence; and WHEREAS, the Mensa constitution has three purposes: to identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity; to encourage research into the nature, characteristics, and uses of intelligence; and to provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for its members; and WHEREAS, Mensa is involved with programs for gifted children, literacy, and scholarships; and WHEREAS, American Mensa has more than fifty-seven thousand members, and more than one hundred thousand members worldwide; and SR NO. 97 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Mensa allows Alex Adams contact with other students in gifted and talented programs from around the world and also provides him contacts with some of the top university professors in the nation; and WHEREAS, as a member of the St. James Parish Gifted and Talented Program for singing, Alex Adams attended numerous district, state, and regional level honor choirs; and WHEREAS, Patrick and Kim Adams and Stanley and Judy Folse are the proud parents and grandparents of Alexander Adams; and WHEREAS, the future success of the state of Louisiana, the strength of local communities, and overall vitality of society depend upon young people like Alexander Adams. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Alexander Charles Adams, for his admittance into the American Chapter of Mensa, International. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the parents of Alexander Adams, Patrick and Kim Adams, and his grandparents, Stanley and Judy Folse. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
