AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 25:752 and 1253(A)(1)(r), relative to provisions of Title 252
(Libraries, Museums, and other Scientific and Cultural Facilities) of the Louisiana3
Revised Statutes of 1950 which are limited in applicability to certain political4
subdivisions or local areas based upon population classifications; to specify5
applicability to one or more political subdivisions or local areas; and to provide for6
related matters.7
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:8
Section 1. R.S. 25:752 and 1253(A)(1)(r) are hereby amended and reenacted to read9
as follows:10
§752. Authorization for historic district and landmarks commissions 11
Any municipality, incorporated town, lake commission, parish, parish council12
or similar governmental unit with a population in excess of five hundred thousand13
and The governing body of the city of New Orleans and the parishes of Franklin,14
Tensas, LaSalle, Catahoula, Concordia, and Caldwell, which city and parishes shall15
be designated as "governmental unit" hereinafter in this Part, may establish within16
its borders an the borders of the city or parish a historic preservation district17
commission and/or or a landmarks commission or a combination of the two to18

to take such action by vote of its governing body, that is, the mayor and city council,1
commissioners, mayor and board of aldermen, city parish council, or police jury, as2
the case may be. Said The governing body may make such appropriations as are3
necessary for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of this Part.4

§1253. Commission; appointment, term, and related matters6
A.(1) The commission shall be comprised of twenty-nine members who shall7
reflect the ethnic and cultural diversity of the population of the state and be8
geographically representative of the regions included in the River Road parishes as9
defined in R.S. 25:1251(2) and shall be appointed as follows:10

(r) One representative of a parish having a population of at least four12
hundred fifty thousand and not more than four hundred eighty thousand persons13
according to the latest federal decennial census Jefferson Parish, appointed by the14
governor.15
