COMMENDATIONS: Commends Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.2
WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. ,was founded in the state of Indiana3
on January 5, 1911, as the first black Greek letter organization to be established west of the4
Appalachian Mountains; and5
WHEREAS, the Southwestern Province was established in the state of Texas when6
the first alumni chapter was established in Marshall, Texas, in 1928; and7
WHEREAS, the first chapter established in the state of Louisiana was the Alpha8
Sigma Chapter on February 22, 1935; and9
WHEREAS, the state of Louisiana has played an integral part in the growth of the10
Southwestern Province and has been the home of numerous leaders in the history of the11
fraternity, including the Thirty-First International Grand Polemarch, Dwayne M. Murray;12
and13
WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., merits a special measure of14
commendation for the pride and honor it brings to the state of Louisiana.15
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the16
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and does17
hereby extend to its members best wishes for continued success in their future endeavors.18
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted19
