A RESOLUTION
To commend Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., was founded in the state of Indiana
on January 5, 1911, as the first black Greek letter organization to be established west of the
Appalachian Mountains; and
WHEREAS, the Southwestern Province was established in the state of Texas when
the first alumni chapter was established in Marshall, Texas, in 1928; and
WHEREAS, the first chapter established in the state of Louisiana was the Alpha
Sigma Chapter on February 22, 1935; and
WHEREAS, the state of Louisiana has played an integral part in the growth of the
Southwestern Province and has been the home of numerous leaders in the history of the
fraternity, including the Thirty-First International Grand Polemarch, Dwayn e M. Murray;
and
WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., merits a special measure of
commendation for the pride and honor it brings to the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., and does
hereby extend to its members best wishes for continued success in their future endeavors. ENROLLEDHR NO. 10

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted
to Dwayne M. Murray.
