HLS 111ES-38 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 First Extraordinary Session, 2011 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 2 BY REPRESENTATIVE ROY CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Bernice Jones Cleveland A RESOLUTION1 To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Mrs. Bernice2 Jones Cleveland.3 WHEREAS, on January 6, 2011, the state of Louisiana lost one of its most beloved4 citizens, Mrs. Bernice Jones Cleveland; and5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Bernice Jones Cleveland was born on October 30, 1926, the eighth6 child of the late Cardelia and Joseph Jones, Sr.; and7 WHEREAS, Mrs. Cleveland is survived by her husband of fifty-seven years, Mr.8 James (Ted) Floyd Cleveland; and9 WHEREAS, Mrs. Cleveland received her education in the Rapides Parish Public10 School system; and11 WHEREAS, for many decades, she worked for the Louisiana Head Start Program12 (Cenla Community Action Committee, Inc.), through the Bo Peep Head Start Center in13 Boyce, where she taught the three- and four-year old age groups; and14 WHEREAS, Mrs. Cleveland received numerous achievement awards as a head start15 teacher, such as the Excellence in Teaching award, the Excellence in Attendance award, and16 in August 2005, she was presented with a 40-Year Service Award; and17 WHEREAS, Mrs. Bernice Jones Cleveland served faithfully at the Good Hope18 Missionary Baptist Church and in May of 2009, she received the Christian Service award19 from the Louisiana Baptist State Convention; and20 HLS 111ES-38 ORIGINAL HR NO. 2 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, she sang in the Sanctuary choir, taught Sunday and vacation bible1 schools and worked with the youth department of the church until September 2005, when2 her health began to fail; and3 WHEREAS, even though her passing has left a deep void in the hearts of her family4 and friends, her love for and devotion to them will help them fill that void.5 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the6 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express its heartfelt condolences to the family of Mrs.7 Bernice Jones Cleveland.8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted9 to the family of Bernice Jones Cleveland.10 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
