Express condolences upon the death of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Quadi S. Hudgins, while on his second tour of duty in Iraq. A RESOLUTION1 To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the2 death of United States Army Staff Sergeant Quadi S. Hudgins.3 WHEREAS, it with great sadness that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana has4 learned of the death of Staff Sergeant Quadi S. Hudgins, age 26, on April 2, 2011, while5 serving in his second tour of duty in Iraq, having previously served there from October 20056 to September 2006; and7 WHEREAS, Sergeant Hudgins moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, from Pensacola,8 Florida, after the second grade, when his father, then in the United States Army, was9 transferred, and graduated from Sarah T. Reed High School in 2003; and 10 WHEREAS, he enlisted in the United States Army in June 2003, and was trained to11 repair radio and communications equipment; and12 WHEREAS, he was assigned to the 3 rd Armored Cavalry Regiment from Fort Hood,13 Texas, which is based at Contingency Operating Site Kalsu in Iskandariya, about twenty14 miles south of Baghdad; and15 WHEREAS, he had joined the 3 rd ACR in June 2010, and four months later was16 deployed to Iraq with the mission of helping train Iraqi police and military forces; and17 WHEREAS, Sergeant Hudgins was assigned to the Regimental Support Battalion,18 SR NO. 20 SLS 111ES-362 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 which provides logistical support to the troopers; and1 WHEREAS, Sergeant Hudgins' awards and commendations included two Army2 Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, a Meritorious Unit Commendation,3 two Army Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, a Korean Defense4 Service Medal and an Iraqi Campaign Medal, while also receiving an Air Assault Badge for5 completing the Army's Air Assault School; and6 WHEREAS, Sergeant Hudgins had a penchant for boxing and engaged in7 competitive boxing; and8 WHEREAS, on Saturday, April 2, 2011, Sergeant Hudgins, along with fellow9 warrior, Sergeant Christian Garcia of Goodyear, Arizona, died when enemy forces attacked10 their position with indirect fire in Babil, a province between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers11 south of Baghdad.12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana13 does hereby extend its deepest and most profound condolences to the family of Louisiana,14 Army Staff Sergeant Quadi S. Hudgins for their immeasurable loss and his great sacrifice15 as he faithfully served his community, state, and nation, and will be forever remembered by16 those who knew and loved him as a true American hero.17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the18 family of Staff Sergeant Quadi S.
