Page 1 of 2 First Extraordinary Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 20 BY SENATORS WILLARD-LEWIS, ADLEY, ALARIO, AMEDEE, APPEL, BROOME, CHABERT, CHAISSON, CHEEK, CLAITOR, CROWE, DONAHUE, DORSEY, ERDEY, GAUTREAUX, GUILLORY, HEITMEIER, JACKSON, KOSTELKA, LAFLEUR, LONG, MARIONNEAUX, MARTINY, MCPHERSON, MI CHOT, MILLS, MORRELL, MORRISH, MOUNT, MURRAY, NEVERS, PERRY, PETERSON, QUINN, RISER, SHAW, SMITH, THOMPSON AND WALSWORTH A RESOLUTION To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the death of United States Army Staff Sergeant Quadi S. Hudgins. WHEREAS, it is with great sadness that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana has learned of the death of Staff Sergeant Quadi S. Hudgins, age 26, on April 2, 2011, while serving in his second tour of duty in Iraq, having previously served there from October 2005 to September 2006; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Hudgins moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, from Pensacola, Florida, after the second grade, when his father, then in the United States Army, was transferred; Sergeant Hudgins then graduated from Sarah T. Reed High School in 2003; and WHEREAS, he enlisted in the United States Army in June 2003, and was trained to repair radio and communications equipment; and WHEREAS, he was assigned to the 3 rd Armored Cavalry Regiment from Fort Hood, Texas, which is based at Contingency Operating Site Kalsu in Iskandariya, about twenty miles south of Baghdad; and WHEREAS, he had joined the 3 rd ACR in June 2010, and four months later was deployed to Iraq with the mission of helping train Iraqi police and military forces; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Hudgins was assigned to the Regimental Support Battalion, which provides logistical support to the troopers; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Hudgins' awards and commendations included two Army Commendation Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, a Meritorious Unit Commendation, two Army Good Conduct Medals, a National Defense Service Medal, a Korean Defense SR NO. 20 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 Service Medal and an Iraqi Campaign Medal, while also receiving an Air Assault Badge for completing the Army's Air Assault School; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Hudgins had a penchant for boxing and engaged in competitive boxing; and WHEREAS, on Saturday, April 2, 2011, Sergeant Hudgins, along with fellow warrior, Sergeant Christian Garcia of Goodyear, Arizona, died when enemy forces attacked their position with indirect fire in Babil, a province between the Euphrates and Tigris rivers south of Baghdad. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend its deepest and most profound condolences to the family of Louisiana, Army Staff Sergeant Quadi S. Hudgins for their immeasurable loss and his great sacrifice as he faithfully served his community, state, and nation, and will be forever remembered by those who knew and loved him as a true American hero. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the family of Staff Sergeant Quadi S. Hudgins. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
