SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 3

A RESOLUTION
To commend Taylor Granger on being named one of the top youth volunteers in Louisiana
for 2011, in the 16
th
Annual Prudential Spirit of Community Awards.
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana has
learned of the honor bestowed upon Taylor Granger, as a recipient of the 2011 Prudential
Spirit of Community Award; and
WHEREAS, 2011 marks the sixteenth presentation of the Prudential Spirit of
Community Award, a national program that recognizes outstanding acts of volunteerism
performed by America's young people; and
WHEREAS, the Prudential Spirit of Community Award is designed to emphasize the
importance our nation places on volunteer service to others and to encourage young
Americans of all backgrounds to contribute to the improvement of their communities; and
WHEREAS, as a senior at Hathaway High School, Taylor Granger established
Strategies to Offer Protection (STOP), a program dedicated to raising awareness of and
teaching self defense; and
WHEREAS, Taylor, motivated by a desire to combat increasing violence in his rural
community, has helped to create and conduct two Women's Safety Seminars, five Stranger
Danger Awareness Programs, and 27 Safety Demonstrations in Jefferson Davis Parish; and
WHEREAS, his unselfish efforts contribute to the well being, happiness, and peace
of mind of those in his community; and
WHEREAS, in commenting about the award winners, the chairman and chief
executive officer of Prudential Financial, John R. Strangfeld, stated, "The award recipients
have proven that young people across America are critical to the future of our
neighborhoods, our nation, and our world"; and SR NO. 3 ENROLLED

WHEREAS, the legacy of Louisiana lies in the strength of its youth, families, and
communities; and
WHEREAS, the commitment of Taylor Granger and other young Louisianians
strengthens its culture and spirit, and speaks of the vitality and resilience of this nation's
character.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby commend youth volunteer, Taylor Granger, recipient of the 2011 Prudential
Spirit of Community Award.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Taylor Granger.
