Urges Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee to recommend, and the Louisiana Senate to enact, a Senate redistricting plan that includes the entirety of Pointe Coupee Parish within one Senate district. A RESOLUTION1 To urge and request the Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee to recommend, and2 the Louisiana Senate to enact, a Senate redistricting plan that includes the entirety3 of Pointe Coupee Parish within one Senate district.4 WHEREAS, except for one eight-year period from 1992-2000, the entirety of the5 parish of Pointe Coupee has been included within one Senate district, and represented by one6 Senator, since 1924; and 7 WHEREAS, the entirety of Pointe Coupee Parish is included in the Capital Area8 Groundwater Conservation District (R.S. 38:3071); the Atchafalaya Basin Levee District9 (R.S. 38:291(A)); the Louisiana Capital Area Economic Development Alliance Film10 Commission (R.S. 33:9039.81); the Capital Area Human Services District (R.S. 28:901);11 the Mississippi River Road Commission (R.S. 25:1251); the Atchafalaya Trace Commission12 (R.S. 25:1222); the Tri-Parish Juvenile Justice District (R.S. 15:1096); the Delta13 Development Initiative (R.S. 3:333); and State Area No. 5 of the State Soil and Water14 Conservation Commission (R.S. 3:1204); and15 WHEREAS, the entirety of Pointe Coupee Parish is included in the election16 jurisdiction of several offices, including Supreme Court District 5 (R.S. 13:101(5)); the first17 election section of the first district of the First Circuit Court of Appeal (R.S. 13:312(1)(b));18 SR NO. 4 SLS 111ES-64 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 and the Eighteenth Judicial District (R.S. 13:477(18)).1 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana2 does hereby urge and request that the Senate and Governmental Affairs Committee to3 recommend, and the Louisiana Senate to enact, a Senate redistricting plan that includes the4 entirety of Pointe Coupee Parish within one Senate district.5 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Jerry J.
