HUNTING: Authorizes the use of sound suppressors when taking nongame nuisance
quadrupeds
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 56:116.1(D)(3), relative to hunting; to authorize the use of sound suppressors2
when taking nongame nuisance quadrupeds; and to provide for related matters.3
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:4
Section 1.  R.S. 56:116.1(D)(3) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 5

(3) Except as provided in this Paragraph, any person who is authorized to10
possess a firearm sound suppressor, as evidenced by payment and possession of the11
required federal tax stamp issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and12
Explosives, may use a firearm fitted with a sound suppressor when taking outlaw13
quadrupeds, nutria, or beaver under the provisions of this Subsection.  The14
provisions of this Paragraph shall not apply to any person who has been convicted15
of a class four or greater hunting violation for a period of five years after the date of16
such conviction. Possession or use of a sound suppressor by such person shall be17
considered a violation of this Paragraph and shall be punished as a class six violation18
in accordance with the provisions of R.S. 56:36.19

Abstract: Authorizes the use of sound suppressors when taking nongame nuisance
quadrupeds.
Present law authorizes the taking of outlaw quadrupeds, nutria, or beaver at any time of year.
Proposed law authorizes the use of a firearm fitted with a sound suppressor for such taking
when the person taking the outlaw quadruped is authorized to possess such firearm fitted
with a sound suppressor, as evidenced by possession of the federal tax stamp required by the
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Prohibits use of a sound suppressor
by any person convicted of a hunting violation class four or greater for five years after the
date of conviction.
