CLERKS OF COURT: Provides for insurance coverage upon retirement for a clerk or clerk
employee that retires under the clerks of court retirement program
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 13:783(F)(3), relative to clerks of court; to provide for insurance2
coverage for clerks of court upon retirement; to provide for the payment of costs; to3
provide for a qualifying minimum term of employment; and to provide for related4
matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 13:783(F)(3) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:7

(3) The clerk or any clerk's employee that retires under the clerks of court12
retirement program may elect to continue insurance coverage obtained under this13
Subsection and the costs may be paid in the same manner as if he were still14
employed provided that the clerk or clerk's employee was a clerk or clerk's employee15
and a member of the Louisiana Clerks' of Court Retirement and Relief Fund for at16
least twelve years prior to retirement.17

Abstract: Requires that a clerk of court or his employees be employed by the clerk and be
a member of the La. Clerks' of Court Retirement and Relief Fund for at least 12 years
prior to retirement in order to qualify for continued insurance benefits upon
retirement.
Present law provides that a clerk or any clerk's employee who retires under the clerks of
court retirement program may elect to continue insurance coverage and the costs may be
paid in the same manner as if he were still employed.
Proposed law retains present law but requires that the clerk or his employe e be employed
and a member of the La. Clerks' of Court Retirement and Relief Fund for at least 12 years
prior to retirement.
