INSURANCE/GROUP-SHERI FFS: Provides relative to the payment of group insurance
premiums for retired sheriffs and deputy sheriffs
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 33:1448(H)(1) and to enact R.S. 33:1448(H)(3), relative to2
payment of group insurance premiums for persons retired from the Assumption3
Parish Sheriff's Office; to require service with the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office4
for a specified number of years after a specified date; and to provide for related5
matters.6
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:7
Section 1. R.S. 33:1448(H)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted and R.S.8
33:1448(H)(3) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 9

H.(1) Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection D of this Section, one12
hundred percent of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical expense,13
and dental insurance, and the first ten thousand dollars of life insurance contracted14
for under the provisions of this Section shall be paid by the sheriff of Assumption15
Parish from the sheriff's general fund for all sheriffs and deputy sheriffs who retire16
on or after July 1, 2001, and before July 1, 2011, from the Assumption Parish17
sheriff's office Sheriff's Office with at least twenty years of service and who are at18
least fifty-five years of age.19

(3) Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection D of this Section, one1

Abstract: Requires the sheriff of Assumption Parish to pay 100% of group insurance
premiums for sheriffs and deputy sheriffs retiring on or after July 1, 2011, who have
served 20 years with the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office.
Present law requires that 100% of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical
expense, and dental insurance, and the first $10,000 of life insurance be paid by the sheriff
of Assumption Parish from the sheriff's general fund for all sheriffs and deputy sheriffs who
retire on or after July 1, 2001, from the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office with at least 20
of service and who are at least 55 years of age.
Proposed law provides that present law shall apply to sheriffs and deputy sheriffs who retire
on or after July 1, 2001, and before July 1, 2011.
Proposed law requires 100% of the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, medical
expense, and dental insurance, and the first $10,000 of life insurance be paid by the sheriff
of Assumption Parish from the sheriff's general fund for all sheriffs and deputy sheriffs who
retire on or after July 1, 2011, from the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office with at least 20
years of service with the Assumption Parish Sheriff's Office.
