HLS 11RS-2660 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2011 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 157 BY REPRESENTATIVE CARTER COMMENDATIONS: Commends John Peterson of LSU upon winning the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To commend John Peterson of Louisiana State University upon winning the 2011 National2 Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Men's Golf Championship.3 WHEREAS, on June 2, 2011, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, John Peterson of the4 Louisiana State University men's golf team won the National Collegiate Athletic Association5 Division I Men's Golf Championship; and6 WHEREAS, with this thrilling victory, Mr. Peterson made history as only the third7 LSU men's golfer ever to win the national title and the first since 1941; and8 WHEREAS, a native of Fort Worth, Texas, Mr. Peterson is one of the most decorated9 players in the history of the LSU men's golf program and was named a 2011 PING First-10 Team All-American by the Golf Coaches Association of America; and11 WHEREAS, Mr. Peterson's 5-under 211 for the championship included a course12 record and career best 7-under par 65 in the second round, and he clinched the championship13 with an even-par 72 in the final round; and14 WHEREAS, Mr. Peterson's championship victory, along with Austin Ernst's of the15 LSU women's team, makes Louisiana State University the first school in history to hold both16 the men's and women's titles in the same calendar year; and17 WHEREAS, John Peterson merits a special measure of commendation for the18 tremendous pride and honor he brings to his family and friends, to Louisiana State19 University, and to the state of Louisiana.20 HLS 11RS-2660 ORIGINAL HCR NO. 157 Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby1 commend John Peterson of Louisiana State University upon winning the 2011 National2 Collegiate Athletic Association Division I Men's Golf Championship, does hereby recognize3 and record for posterity his outstanding achievements in the great sport of golf, and does4 hereby extend to him best wishes for continued success and happiness in his future5 endeavors.6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted7 to John Peterson.8 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
