HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 9
BY REPRESENTATIVE NOWLIN
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH:  Recognizes the first weekend in June annually as the
Cookin' on the Cane Barbeque Competition and Festival in Natchitoches, La.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To recognize the first weekend in June annually as the Cookin' on the Cane Barbeque2
Competition and Festival in Natchitoches, Louisiana.3
WHEREAS, the Natchitoches Area Jaycees are hosting the Cookin' on the Cane4
Barbeque Competition and Festival on the first weekend in June; and5
WHEREAS, the competition is being held on Rue Beauport on the riverbank of Cane6
River Lake in the Historic District of downtown Natchitoches, Louisiana; and7
WHEREAS, this competition is open to both professional and nonprofessional cooks;8
and9
WHEREAS, Cookin' on the Cane will have a positive economic impact on10
Natchitoches and the surrounding areas; and11
WHEREAS, at this exciting event, Natchitoches will showcase its southern12
hospitality, and competitors will fill the air with the smell of barbeque in the oldest13
permanent settlement of the Louisiana Purchase; and14
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize this memorable and historic occasion and15
to encourage the citizens of Louisiana to recognize the winner of the Cookin' on the Cane16
Barbeque Competition and Festival as an official state barbeque champion.17
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby18
recognize the first weekend in June annually as the Cookin' on the Cane Barbeque19
Competition and Festival in Natchitoches, Louisiana.20 HLS 11RS-270	ORIGINAL

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the1
executive director of the Natchitoches Area Convention and Visitor's Bureau and to the2
president/chief executive officer of the Natchitoches Area Chamber of Commerce.3
