ENROLLED Page 1 of 1 Regular Session, 2011 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 9 BY REPRESENTATIVE NOWLIN A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To recognize the first weekend in June annually as the Cookin' on the Cane Barbeque Competition and Festival in Natchitoches, Louisiana. WHEREAS, the Natchitoches Area Jaycees are hosting the Cookin' on the Cane Barbeque Competition and Festival on the first weekend in June; and WHEREAS, the competition is being held on Rue Beauport on the riverbank of Cane River Lake in the Historic District of downtown Natchitoches, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, this competition is open to both professional and nonprofessional cooks; and WHEREAS, Cookin' on the Cane will have a positive economic impact on Natchitoches and the surrounding areas; and WHEREAS, at this exciting event, Natchitoches will showcase its southern hospitality, and competitors will fill the air with the smell of barbeque in the oldest permanent settlement of the Louisiana Purchase; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize this memorable and historic occasion and to encourage the citizens of Louisiana to recognize the winner of the Cookin' on the Cane Barbeque Competition and Festival as an official state barbeque champion. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize the first weekend in June annually as the Cookin' on the Cane Barbeque Competition and Festival in Natchitoches, Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the executive director of the Natchitoches Area Convention and Visitor's Bureau and to the president/chief executive officer of the Natchitoches Area Chamber of Commerce.
