HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 107

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Sherri McConnell for her service as director of the
office of entertainment, La. Dept. of Economic Development
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Sherri McConnell for her tireless service to the state of Louisiana for her2
dedicated and productive service with the Louisiana Department of Economic3
Development, office of entertainment.4
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Sherri McConnell for her outstanding5
service as director of the office of entertainment, where she served the people of Louisiana6
with dedication and distinction; and7
WHEREAS, Sherri McConnell began her career with the office of entertainment on8
February 5, 2007, and channeled her enthusiasm for the creative industries into improving9
opportunities for film, music, digital interactive media, and live performance programs in10
Louisiana; and11
WHEREAS, under her guidance, the state's entertainment industry has now12
experienced its fifth consecutive year of growth, capitalizing on the state's native creative13
culture and providing sustainable, well-paid jobs for its citizens; and14
WHEREAS, because of Sherri McConnell's aggressive pursuit of digital media15
incentives, Louisiana now boasts more than one hundred three thousand professionals with16
a background in software development or digital media; and17
WHEREAS, due to Sherri McConnell's drive and vision, Louisiana is ranked third18
in the country for the number of film productions shot in the state, with more than three19
hundred motion pictures being filmed in locations around our great state; and20 HR NO. 107

WHEREAS, Sherri McConnell's commitment to capturing and spotlighting1
Louisiana's indigenous creative class led to the creation of the nation's first tax incentive2
package focused solely on the creation, growth, and expansion of the live concert and3
theatrical industries; and4
WHEREAS, recognizing the value of our musical heritage, Sherri McConnell and5
the office of entertainment developed an incentive program that allowed our musicians to6
stay in Louisiana and remain a treasured cultural asset of the state; and7
WHEREAS, as a result of her untiring efforts at the helm of the office of8
entertainment, Louisiana has become known as an entertainment goldmine, which has9
generated more than two billion dollars in new revenue and spurred the creation of thousands10
of high wage jobs, state of the art infrastructure development, and new business11
opportunities.12
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the13
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Sherri McConnell for her years of dedicated14
service to the people of Louisiana and does hereby express appreciation for her exemplary15
service to the state as the director of the office of entertainment in the Louisiana Department16
of Economic Development.17
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted18
to Sherri McConnell.19
