CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Ella Dee Hamilton of
Shreveport
A RESOLUTION1
To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Ella Dee Hamilton of2
Shreveport.3
WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the4
Louisiana House of Representatives have learned of the death of Ella Dee Hamilton; and5
WHEREAS, for more than fifty-two years, Mrs. Hamilton was a beloved member6
of Shreveport's Martin Luther King, Jr., community; and7
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hamilton was the mother of eleven children and the "surrogate8
mother" of many young people whose lives she touched; and9
WHEREAS, ever devoted to the youth of her community, Mrs. Hamilton worked10
with the Head Start program and served with great effectiveness in many volunteer11
capacities, including as the president of the Parent Teacher Association and as a den mother;12
and13
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hamilton was a gifted seamstress and helped many others to14
develop and share their gifts and talents, inspiring them to become ministers, educators,15
activists, law enforcement officials, attorneys, and health care providers; and16
WHEREAS, Mrs. Hamilton deserves posthumous gratitude and respect for the joy17
and pride she brought to her neighbors on Gordonia Drive and to her entire community; and18
WHEREAS, with the death of Ella Dee Hamilton, Louisiana has lost one of her finest19
citizens, an unsung hero whose kind and generous spirit has left an indelible mark on the20
minds and hearts of all who knew and loved her.21 HLS 11RS-1368 ORIGINAL

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the1
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the2
death of Ella Dee Hamilton of Shreveport and does hereby recognize that her vibrant and3
enduring legacy of kindness, grace, and service will forever remain a source of tremendous4
honor for her family, friends, community, and state.5
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted6
to the family of Ella Dee Hamilton.7
