HLS 11RS-1945 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2011 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 41 BY REPRESENTATIVE ROSALIND JONES CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Patricia Smith A RESOLUTION1 To express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Patricia Smith.2 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the members of the3 Louisiana House of Representatives have learned of the death of Patricia Smith at the age4 of sixty; and5 WHEREAS, born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on October 4, 1950, Patricia Smith6 was the beloved mother of two and the grandmother of five; and7 WHEREAS, Patricia Smith was a graduate of Central State University, where she8 received a bachelor's degree in education, and she earned a master's degree from the9 University of Oklahoma; and10 WHEREAS, Patricia Smith served with valor in the United States Air Force from11 1979 until 1992; she attained the rank of captain and received an honorable discharge; and12 WHEREAS, in 2010, Patricia Smith retired from the United States Department of13 Justice, where she served with distinction as an administrative officer; previously, she served14 as an administrative clerk with the United States Department of Housing and Urban15 Development in Oklahoma City; and16 WHEREAS, Patricia Smith was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the17 Oklahoma Trailblazers Ski Club, and the Community Association for the Welfare of School18 Children; and19 HLS 11RS-1945 ORIGINAL HR NO. 41 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, with the death of Patricia Smith, Louisiana has lost one of her finest1 citizens, a woman who was admired by all whose lives she touched, leaves behind a rich and2 unique legacy, and is greatly missed; and3 WHEREAS, although the death of Patricia Smith has left a tremendous void in her4 community, her memory shall live on forever in the minds and hearts of all who knew and5 loved her.6 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the7 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the8 death of Patricia Smith, does hereby recognize and record for posterity her outstanding9 accomplishments and singular contributions, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation10 for the pride and honor that this wonderful woman will forever bring to her family, friends,11 community, state, and nation.12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted13 to the family of Patricia Smith.14 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
