Animals" week at the legislature.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To designate May 2-6, 2011, as "Be Kind to Animals" week at the legislature.2
WHEREAS, we have been endowed not only with the blessings and benefits of our3
animal friends who give us companionship and great pleasure in our daily lives, but also4
with a firm responsibility to protect those fellow creatures with whom we share the Earth5
from pain and suffering; and6
WHEREAS, we recognize that instilling attitudes of kindness, consideration and7
respect for all living things through humane education in schools and the community helps8
provide basic values on which a humane and civilized society is built; and9
WHEREAS, the people of Louisiana are deeply indebted to the animal care and10
control agencies for their invaluable contribution in caring for lost and homeless animals;11
and12
WHEREAS, animal care and control agencies promote a true spirit of kindness and13
consideration for animals in the minds and hearts of all people; and14
WHEREAS, the first full week of May has been established by the American15
Humane Association as the annual celebration of the philosophy of kindness to animals; and16
WHEREAS, 2011 marks the 96
th
anniversary of the American Humane Association's17
"Be Kind to Animals" week.18 SCR NO. 14

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby1
designate the week of May 2-6, 2011, to be "Be Kind to Animals" week at the legislature.2
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the3
American Humane Association.4
