SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 6
BY SENATOR CLAITOR AND REPRESENTATIVES GREENE AND PONTI 
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend the Episcopal High School of Baton Rouge boys' cross country track team and
Coach Claney Duplechin for sustained and continuing athletic excellence.
WHEREAS, the 2009-2010 school year saw the Knights of Episcopal High School
of Baton Rouge garner state championships in golf, swimming, indoor track, and outdoor
track; and
WHEREAS, among the continuing athletic excellence displayed by EHS athletes and
their coaches, the 2010 boys cross country team achieved their fifteenth-in-a-row Class 2A
State Championship; and
WHEREAS, this achievement places the EHS Knights boys' cross country team
among the top schools in the country, ranking third in the nation in most state championships
at twenty-seven, and second in the nation with most consecutive wins at fifteen; and
WHEREAS, the accomplishment is a testament to both the athletes who train and
sweat and strive, and the coaches that inspire them to be their best, and nowhere is this more
true than the leadership provided to the EHS Knights track and boys' cross country team by
their coach, Claney Duplechin, who has steered the school's cross country program for
twenty-eight years; and
WHEREAS, Coach Duplechin has devoted his life to teaching young athletes the
meaning of teamwork and discipline, initially as a student coach at University High School,
then starting his coaching career as an assistant at Catholic High School in Baton Rouge,
before taking the helm at Episcopal High School; and
WHEREAS, just three years after taking the cross country coaching position at EHS,
the Knights won their first state title and under his leadership have since won nine state titles
in outdoor track and three in indoor track, including eleven runner-up finishes; and SCR NO. 6	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, during his successful career, Coach Duplechin has been awarded East
Baton Rouge Parish Coach of the Year (all classifications) thirteen times, East Baton Rouge
Parish Boys Track Coach of the Year (all classes) seven times, Louisiana State Coach of the
Year (all classes) Boys Track in 1999, and was a nominee for National High School Track
Coach of the Year in 1993.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
recognize and commend the Episcopal High School of Baton Rouge boys' cross country and
track teams and its stellar coach, Claney Duplechin, for winning the 2010 Class 2A State
Championship, and for achieving a record of success that has garnered city, metro, state, and
national recognition and honor.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Head Master and athletic director of Episcopal High School in Baton Rouge.
