Regular Session, 2011	ENROLLED
SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 63
BY SENATOR PERRY
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To urge and request United States Postal Service to keep the post office in the Village of
Maurice open.
WHEREAS, the Village of Maurice, through its mayor, has received verification that
the post office for the Village of Maurice may close in the near future; and
WHEREAS, the proposed closure apparently arises due to the rural carriers being
based and serviced out of the city of Broussard; and
WHEREAS, the post office located in the Village of Maurice is an integral part of
the community, providing a convenient venue for older aged citizens to have easy access to
the postal service; and
WHEREAS, according to the 2010 census guidelines, the Village of Maurice is the
eighth fastest growing incorporated area in the state of Louisiana and has a new apartment
complex being constructed and a new nursing home facility ; and
WHEREAS, this growth is projected to continue by at least this rate or greater in the
future; and
WHEREAS, the closure of the Village of Maurice post office will create an undue
hardship to the citizens of the village by requiring them to travel to the city of Broussard for
direct post office services; and
WHEREAS, it is essential that the post office in the Village of Maurice not close, as
eighty percent of the village residents receive and disburse mail within the village.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
urge and request that the United States Postal Service to keep the post office in the Village
of Maurice open. SCR NO. 63	ENROLLED
