Commends LSU Eunice Lady Bengals softball team on winning the NJCAA Division II National Championship. A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To commend LSU Eunice Lady Bengals softball team on winning the NJCAA Division II2 National Championship.3 WHEREAS, the 2010-2011 year saw the LSU Eunice Lady Bengals softball team,4 under the leadership of Coach Andy Lee, garner their first-ever NJCAA Division II World5 Championship in Normal, Illinois; and6 WHEREAS, the Lady Bengals are no strangers to success on the softball field,7 including participating in the NJCAA World Series in 2009, and this year completing a8 record-breaking 58-10 season; and9 WHEREAS, despite losing a pitcher to a sprained ankle, the team was able to beat10 Owens Community College for the 2011 championship 10-0 and set tournament records for11 the highest team batting average at .476, the best fielding percentage at .992, with only one12 error in five games, and the most runs scored in the tournament at forty-nine; and13 WHEREAS, the championship Lady Bengals team includes Coach Andy Lee,14 Assistant Coach Brandi Alonzo, Team Manager Alyssa Marks, and players Lauren Slusher,15 Katie Ocmand, Emily Trahan, Terrisita Vallery, Karli Wainwright, Leah Andrus, Jaci16 Trahan, Logane Fuselier, Savannah Havard, Tiffany Havard, Ashley Taylor, Heather17 Abshire, and several teammates were recognized for outstanding performances on the field18 SCR NO. 64 SLS 11RS-1553 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 during the championship, including outfielder Haley McCall, who was named tournament1 MVP and All-Tournament Team, Samantha Bella, who was named Most Outstanding2 Defensive Player, Tina Schultz earned Most Outstanding Pitcher and All-Tournament Team,3 and outfielder Chaney Trahan, who was named All-Tournament Team; and4 WHEREAS, after just two years of taking the coaching position for ladies softball5 at LSU Eunice, and leading them through a series of record-breaking games, Coach Andy6 Lee was named NJCAA Division II Coach of the Year; and7 WHEREAS, the players and staff of the Lady Bengals have made their school and8 state proud because of their competitiveness, motivation, and dedication to the sport they9 love.10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby11 recognize and commend the LSU Eunice Lady Bengals softball team for winning the12 NJCAA Division II Softball National Championship.13 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the14 LSU Eunice Athletics Department.15 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by McHenry Lee.
