SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 64

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend LSU Eunice Lady Bengals softball team on winning the NJCAA Division II
National Championship.
WHEREAS, the 2010-2011 year saw the LSU Eunice Lady Bengals softball team,
under the leadership of Coach Andy Lee, garner their first-ever NJCAA Division II World
Championship in Normal, Illinois; and
WHEREAS, the Lady Bengals are no strangers to success on the softball field,
including participating in the NJCAA World Series in 2009, and this year completing a
record-breaking 58-10 season; and
WHEREAS, despite losing a pitcher to a sprained ankle, the team was able to beat
Owens Community College for the 2011 championship 10-0 and set tournament records for
the highest team batting average at .476, the best fielding percentage at .992, with only one
error in five games, and the most runs scored in the tournament at forty-nine; and
WHEREAS, the championship Lady Bengals team includes Coach Andy Lee,
Assistant Coach Brandi Alonzo, Team Manager Alyssa Marks, and players Lauren Slusher,
Katie Ocmand, Emily Trahan, Terrisita Vallery, Karli Wainwright, Leah Andrus, Jaci
Trahan, Logane Fuselier, Savannah Havard, Tiffany Havard, Ashley Taylor, Heather
Abshire, and several teammates were recognized for outstanding performances on the field
during the championship, including outfielder Haley McCall, who was named tournament
MVP and All-Tournament Team, Samantha Bella, who was named Most Outstanding
Defensive Player, Tina Schultz earned Most Outstanding Pitcher and All-Tournament Team,
and outfielder Chaney Trahan, who was named All-Tournament Team; and
WHEREAS, after just two years of taking the coaching position for ladies softball
at LSU Eunice, and leading them through a series of record-breaking games, Coach Andy
Lee was named NJCAA Division II Coach of the Year; and SCR NO. 64	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, the players and staff of the Lady Bengals have made their school and
state proud because of their competitiveness, motivation, and dedication to the sport they
love.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
recognize and commend the LSU Eunice Lady Bengals softball team for winning the
NJCAA Division II Softball National Championship.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
LSU Eunice Athletics Department.
