SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 7
BY SENATOR CLAITOR AND REPRESENTATIVE CARTER 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Y.A. Tittle on being selected to receive the LSU College
of Education Alumni Distinction Award.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Y.A. Tittle on being selected to receive an LSU College of Education Alumni2
Distinction Award.3
WHEREAS, on April 28, 2011, the Louisiana State University College of Education4
will host an awards banquet and among the honorees will be Y. A. Tittle, who will receive5
the College of Education Alumni Distinction Award; and 6
WHEREAS, Yelberton Abraham "Y.A." Tittle, Jr., was born on October 24, 1926,7
in Marshall, Texas; and8
WHEREAS, he was a celebrated recruiting catch for the LSU Tigers, mainly because9
an older brother, Jack, had played for Tulane; and 10
WHEREAS, when asked what was his finest moment of his four years at LSU, Tittle11
said defeating Tulane as a freshman, in 1944, when the Tigers won 25-6, one of two victories12
in a 2-5-1 season; and13
WHEREAS, his most embarrassing moment as a Tiger came as a senior in 1947, in14
a 20-18 loss to Ole Miss at Tiger Stadium, in which Tittle intercepted a Charley Conerly15
pass and was headed for the end zone when an Ole Miss player grabbed him by his belt16
causing the belt to break and Tittle pants began to fall and he was tackled; and17
WHEREAS, Tittle was named the Most Valuable Player of the 1947 Cotton Bowl18 SCR NO. 7

Classic, which ended in a scoreless tie between LSU and Arkansas during an ice storm; and1
WHEREAS, in his LSU career, Tittle set more than four passing records; and2
WHEREAS, he and his wife, Minnette DeLoach, married in 1948 and they have four3
children; and4
WHEREAS, after his college career, Tittle was drafted in the first round by the5
Baltimore Colts of the All American Football Conference (AAFC); and6
WHEREAS, he played professionally for the Colts of the AAFC in 1948, being7
named the league's Rookie of the Year, and 1949, before moving to the National Football8
League with the Baltimore Colts (1950), San Francisco 49ers (1951-1960) and New York9
Giants (1961-1964); and10
WHEREAS, he was the first New York Giants quarterback to pass for over 400 yards11
in a game and, in the NFL All-Time Rankings, is 29th in pass attempts (4,395), 36th in pass12
completions (2,427), 23rd in passing yards (33,070), 16th in touchdown passes (242), 31st13
in yards per pass completion (13.6), and 94th in passing yards per game (162.9); and14
WHEREAS, although Tittle never won an NFL championship, he did lead the Giants15
to three straight Eastern Division titles and was the first of only seven quarterbacks in NFL16
history to have achieved consecutive 30-touchdown passing seasons; in 1963, set an NFL17
record by throwing 36 touchdown passes, a record that stood until 1984; was named the NFL18
Most Valuable Player in 1961 and 1963; named to the All-NFL Team in 1957, 1961, 1962,19
and 1963; and elected to seven Pro Bowls; and20
WHEREAS, Tittle interrupted his professional football career to complete his course21
work to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in health, physical and safety education from the22
College of Education in 1950; and23
WHEREAS, following his retirement from football, he founded a highly successful24
insurance agency bearing his name, Y.A. Tittle & Associates Insurance Services.25
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby26
commend Y.A. Tittle on being selected to receive the LSU College of Education Alumni27
Distinction Award.28
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Y.A.29
