SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 71
BY SENATOR MURRAY 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends the Martha Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in
honor of their annual Grand Session to be held on June 26-30, 2011, in New Orleans,
Louisiana.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend the Martha Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in honor of their annual2
Grand Session to be held on June 26 through June 30, 2011, in New Orleans,3
Louisiana.4
WHEREAS, the Order of Eastern Star is the largest fraternal organization in the5
world to which both women and men belong, with a worldwide membership of over one6
million; and7
WHEREAS, the social order of Eastern Star is comprised of persons with spiritual8
values and has appeals that rests in the true beauty of refreshing and character-building9
lessons that are sincerely portrayed in the Order's work; and10
WHEREAS, a deep fraternal bond exists between members, with a wholesome11
relationship of sisterly and brotherly love brought about through high principles exemplified12
in the lives of its members; and13
WHEREAS, the Order is composed of people who are of deep spiritual convictions,14
and is open to all faiths, with a focus on the welfare of its members; and15
WHEREAS, the Martha Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star was organized on16
December 29, 1927, under the jurisdiction of the Supreme Council, Sovereign Grand17
Inspector Generals thirty-third and Last Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite18 SCR NO. 71

of Free Masonry for the Sovereign and Independent State of Louisiana, its Territories and1
Dependences; and2
WHEREAS, the emblem of the Order is a five point star with a white ray of the star3
pointing toward the manger; and4
WHEREAS, the character building lessons taught in the Order are stories inspired5
by biblical figures; and6
WHEREAS, the Martha Grand Chapter is domiciled in New Orleans, Louisiana and7
is a fraternal organization built on the principles of faith, hope, and love; and8
WHEREAS, the Martha Grand Chapter holds its Grand Session annually, the9
Monday after the fourth Sunday in June, at a place as designated by the Grand Chapter; and10
WHEREAS, the Martha Grand Chapter has subordinate chapters in Connecticut,11
Rhode Island, Maryland, New York, North Carolina, Virginia, Washington, D.C.,12
Washington, and Wisconsin; and13
WHEREAS, past Grand Matrons of Martha Grand Chapter include sisters Lillian14
Loeb, Kate Jones, Ethel D. Ford, Rose Mary Young and the present Grand Matron, Emeld15
Keys; and16
WHEREAS, past Grand Patrons include brothers Robert Coston, Theodore Williams,17
Chester Lewis, Lawrence Blount and the present Grand Patron, Walter Evans Jr.; and18
WHEREAS, Sister Emeld M. Keys, Grand Worthy Matron of Martha Grand Chapter,19
Order of Eastern Star, has called the Grand Session, Sunday, June 26, 2011, in a20
Thanksgiving Service, at the New Zion Baptist Church in New Orleans, Louisiana where Dr.21
C.S. Gordon, Jr., will deliver the sermon; and22
WHEREAS, the business session will open at Doubletree Hotel in New Orleans,23
Louisiana and will last through Wednesday, June 29, 2011, where the election of the grand24
officers will be held; and25
WHEREAS, on Thursday, June 30, 2011, the Grand Amaranth Court will open a26
grand banquet and installation of grand officers.27
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby28
commend the Martha Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in honor of their annual Grand29
Session to be held on June 26 through June 30, 2011.30 SCR NO. 71

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Sister1
Emeld M. Keys, Grand Worthy Matron.2
