SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 76
BY SENATOR LONG AND REPRESENTATIVE NOWLIN 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Trecey Rew of Northwestern State University upon
winning the women's discus national title at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field
Championships.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Trecey Rew of Northwestern State University upon winning the women's2
discus national title at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.3
WHEREAS, the senior from Garland, Texas, came through with a career best final4
toss of one hundred ninety-two feet, four inches to claim the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and5
Field Championships at Drake University; and6
WHEREAS, her personal record final toss defeated the runner-up's throw of one7
hundred ninety feet and two inches; and8
WHEREAS, Trecey improved her personal record of one hundred eighty feet, four9
inches three times in six throws on her way to the championship at Drake Stadium in Des10
Moines, Iowa; and11
WHEREAS, Trecey's championship gave Northwestern State its third NCAA12
national championship in the sport and its first since 1990; and13
WHEREAS, her performance in the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field14
Championships clinched her first-team All-American honors; and15
WHEREAS, Rew earned All-American honors in 2010 with her performance in the16
shot put, where she holds the school record at fifty-four feet, eleven and half inches; and17
WHEREAS, Trecey's athletic accomplishments cannot be recognized without18 SCR NO. 76

acknowledging her equally impressive performance in the classroom; and1
WHEREAS, Rew is a 2011 Academic All-American finalist with a perfect 4.0 grade2
point average a year into graduate school, after earning her undergraduate degree in3
broadcast journalism in May 2010 with a 3.86 grade point average; and4
WHEREAS, the national championship was the cumulation of a successful academic5
and athletic career at Northwestern State University; and6
WHEREAS, Trecey represented all Northwestern State University students, staff,7
administrators, and alums with grace and dignity on her way to becoming a national8
champion.9
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby10
commend Trecey Rew of Northwestern State University upon winning the women's discus11
national title at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.12
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Greg13
Burke, athletic director, Northwestern State University.14
