Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 103 BY SENATOR RISER A RESOLUTION To commend Owen Brouilette, student at Bains Elementary School in West Feliciana Parish, upon his winning second place in the Ninth Environmental Awareness Art and Language Arts Contest, in language arts for students ages five to seven from throughout Louisiana. WHEREAS, the Louisiana Environmental Education Commission, under the direction of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries hosts an annual contest for children in grades kindergarten through high school; and WHEREAS, the contest is designed to encourage environmental science content in education; and WHEREAS, in this ninth year of the awards, the theme of "Louisiana Outdoors: A Beautiful Experience" attracted over thirteen hundred entries from students throughout Louisiana; and WHEREAS, the theme was selected in order to assist teachers in using the contest to encourage students to be aware of and to enjoy the outdoors, leading them to become better stewards of the environment in the future; and WHEREAS, student entries include artwork, poetry, and short stories which allow the students to creatively reflect upon their love, appreciation, and knowledge of the unique natural habitats that Louisiana offers its citizens; and WHEREAS, the winners receive monetary awards, provided through the generous sponsorship of the Alcoa Foundation, and the winning art and writing are combined to create calendars that are distributed throughout the state. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Owen Brouilette of Bains Elementary School for winning second place in the Ninth Environmental Awareness Art and Language Arts Contest, in language arts for students ages five to seven.
