SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 104
BY SENATOR RISER 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends the graduates of Block High School Class of 1961 on
the fiftieth anniversary of their graduation.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the graduates of Block High School Class of 1961 on the fiftieth anniversary2
of their graduation.3
WHEREAS, in 1961 Block High School in Jonesboro, Louisiana graduated forty-4
three young men and women hoping to make their mark in the world; and5
WHEREAS, those young men and women had excelled in high school in 4-H and6
a wide-range of typical high school activities including playing basketball and football,7
home economics classes, band activities, and serving as team managers; and8
WHEREAS, the class of 1961 graduated on May 18, 1961 and celebrated with a class9
trip to the Majestic Hotel and Baths in Hot Springs, Arkansas; and10
WHEREAS, the class of 1961 has made their mark on the world and on Louisiana11
serving as doctors, nurses, teachers, elected officials, pharmacists, business owners, law12
enforcement personnel and investigators, and in the United States military; and13
WHEREAS, the class of 1961 has married, raised families, been active in local14
churches, volunteered for local charities, and reached out to help those in need, building an15
ever stronger community, state, and country; and16
WHEREAS, a reunion committee led by Ida Mae Cockerham, BeBe Joy Patten,17
Melba Neal, Dot Chapelle, Jerry Wiggins, Larada Rutledge, and Sarah Brown has been18 SR NO. 104

contacting their classmates and their families, planning the activities, placing pictures on1
Facebook, and reconnecting with classmates from long distances in order to celebrate this2
important milestone in the lives of these graduates; and3
WHEREAS, the Block High School Class of 1961 will gather on June 18, 2011 at4
the First Baptist Church gymnasium in Jonesboro to remember classmates lost, celebrate5
friendships, and share memories of lives well lived in the fifty years since they stepped into6
their adult lives on May 18, 1961. 7
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana8
does hereby commend the Block High School Class of 1961 on the celebration of the fiftieth9
anniversary of their graduation.10
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the11
Block High School Class of 1961.12
