Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 104 BY SENATOR RISER A RESOLUTION To commend the graduates of Block High School Class of 1961 on the fiftieth anniversary of their graduation. WHEREAS, in 1961 Block High School in Jonesboro, Louisiana graduated forty- three young men and women hoping to make their mark in the world; and WHEREAS, those young men and women had excelled in high school in 4-H and a wide-range of typical high school activities including playing basketball and football, home economics classes, band activities, and serving as team managers; and WHEREAS, the class of 1961 graduated on May 18, 1961 and celebrated with a class trip to the Majestic Hotel and Baths in Hot Springs, Arkansas; and WHEREAS, the class of 1961 has made their mark on the world and on Louisiana serving as doctors, nurses, teachers, elected officials, pharmacists, business owners, law enforcement personnel and investigators, and in the United States military; and WHEREAS, the class of 1961 has married, raised families, been active in local churches, volunteered for local charities, and reached out to help those in need, building an ever stronger community, state, and country; and WHEREAS, a reunion committee led by Ida Mae Cockerham, BeBe Joy Patten, Melba Neal, Dot Chapelle, Jerry Wiggins, Larada Rutledge, and Sarah Brown has been contacting their classmates and their families, planning the activities, placing pictures on Facebook, and reconnecting with classmates from long distances in order to celebrate this important milestone in the lives of these graduates; and SR NO. 104 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, the Block High School Class of 1961 will gather on June 18, 2011 at the First Baptist Church gymnasium in Jonesboro to remember classmates lost, celebrate friendships, and share memories of lives well lived in the fifty years since they stepped into their adult lives on May 18, 1961. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Block High School Class of 1961 on the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of their graduation. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Block High School Class of 1961. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
