Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2011 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 105 BY SENATOR MICHOT A RESOLUTION To commend and congratulate Richard E. D'Aquin upon the occasion of his retirement from the Louisiana Board of Regents and to recognize his years of service to the board and to the state of Louisiana. WHEREAS, on January 27, 2011, Richard E. D'Aquin retired from the Louisiana Board of Regents after serving as a member since its inception in 1975; and WHEREAS, he served as secretary and as a member of the executive committee for the majority of his time on the board; and WHEREAS, prior to serving on the Louisiana Board of Regents, he was appointed to the Louisiana State Board of Education in 1972; and WHEREAS, as a businessman in Lafayette, he utilized his leadership skills and business experience to assist the board in developing and implementing the Louisiana Community and Technical College System to focus on workforce training; and WHEREAS, the board also worked toward improving articulation between educational institutions and redesigning high school curriculums to better prepare students for college; and WHEREAS, during Mr. D'Aquin's time on the board, it implemented nationally lauded teacher education reforms, instituted long-distance learning, and developed a statewide library network and programs for adult learners and low-income students; and WHEREAS, as a member of the executive committee, Mr. D'Aquin played a significant role in overseeing the second best improvement in retention rates in the United States, the fourth-best graduation rate improvement in the nation, and the second-best improvement in the number of degrees and certificates awarded; and WHEREAS, Richard E. D'Aquin merits the highest commendation and congratulations for his exemplary public service and for his outstanding contributions to the Louisiana Board of Regents and to the state of Louisiana, whose citizens will long reap the benefits of the incomparable legacy he leaves. SR NO. 105 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend and congratulate Richard E. D'Aquin upon his retirement from the Louisiana Board of Regents and pay tribute to him for his service to all and extend to him good wishes for success and happiness in all of his future endeavors.
