Lipe on 50 years of service to his church and community and recognizes August 21, 2011, as Paul J. Lipe Day in Delhi. A RESOLUTION1 To commend Paul J. Lipe on fifty years of service to his church and community and2 recognizes August 21, 2011, as Paul J. Lipe Day in Delhi.3 WHEREAS, Paul J. Lipe is a well-loved member of the Delhi community, dedicated4 member of his church, loving family man, and an example of compassion and integrity; and5 WHEREAS, he was born on December 31, 1935, in China Grove, North Carolina,6 the third child of A.P. and Julie Lipe, graduated from Davidson College in Davidson, North7 Carolina, where he received a degree in history, after which he was called to the service of8 the Lord and attended Columbia Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, where he graduated in 1961;9 and10 WHEREAS, he married Linda Hastings on August 4, 1962, and the couple have two11 children, Mary Linda and Jonathan; and12 WHEREAS, he began his long service to Christ as a summer student pastor at Delhi13 Presbyterian in 1960, was ordained by Red River Presbytery in June 1961, and became14 pastor of the Delhi Presbyterian Church, where his dedication and leadership for over fifty15 years have been instrumental in the rapid growth of the church, including multiple16 expansions of the facilities, a highly successful summer basketball camp for area youth for17 the last twenty-five years, and youth trips to Montreat; and18 SR NO. 107 SLS 11RS-1951 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, his inspiration as a pastor and leader extends beyond his church, as he1 has served as a past moderator of the Mississippi Valley Presbytery and the Louisiana2 Presbytery, has served three terms in the General Assembly Nominating Committee of the3 Presbyterian Church in America (PCA) and has chaired several Committees of the4 Commissioners at the General Assembly; and5 WHEREAS, Paul Lipe has been an integral part of the Delhi community, and has6 served as the past president of a number of organizations, including the Delhi PTA, the Delhi7 Lions Club, the Dixie Boys Baseball, and the Bi-Racial Committee of Richland Parish8 School Board; has served as a past member of the Richland Parish Library Board and the9 Governor's Codofil Board; was instrumental in initiating the Community Churches'10 Benevolent Fund; served as a substitute teacher at Delhi High School; and has served on11 numerous committees for mayor, council, and school; and12 WHEREAS, the members of Delhi Presbyterian Church, the citizens of Delhi, and13 the state of Louisiana are grateful for the generosity and dedication that Paul Lipe has shown14 toward his fellow man in making a better community and world, and thus sets aside August15 21, 2011, as a day of recognition of this great pastor, leader, husband, father, and friend. 16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana17 does hereby commend Paul J . Lipe on fifty years of service to his church and community18 and recognizes August 21, 2011, as Paul J. Lipe Day in Delhi.19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Paul20 J.
