SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 116

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Sherri McConnell for her service to the state of
Louisiana, upon her resignation from the Louisiana Department of Economic Development,
Office of Entertainment.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Sherri McConnell for her service to the state of Louisiana, upon her2
resignation from the Louisiana Department of Economic Development, Office of3
Entertainment.4
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Sherri McConnell as she resigns from her5
position as the Director of the Office of Entertainment, where she served the people of the6
state of Louisiana with dedication and distinction; and 7
WHEREAS, Sherri McConnell began her career with the Office of Entertainment on8
February 5, 2007; and 9
WHEREAS, under her guidance the state's entertainment industry has now10
experienced its fifth consecutive year of growth; and 11
WHEREAS, because of Sherri McConnell's aggressive pursuit of Digital Media12
incentives, Louisiana now boasts over 103,000 professionals with a background in software13
development or digital media; and 14
WHEREAS, due to Sherri McConnell's drive and vision, Louisiana is number three15
in the country for the number of movie and film productions shot in the state, with over 30016
motion pictures being shot in Louisiana; and 17
WHEREAS, Sherri McConnell's commitment in capturing and spotlighting18 SR NO. 116

Louisiana's indigenous creative class led to the creation of the nation's first tax incentive1
package focused solely on the creation, growth and expansion of the live concert and2
theatrical industries; and3
WHEREAS, recognizing the opportunity to put Louisiana musicians to work, Sherri4
McConnell and the Office of Entertainment developed an incentive program that allowed5
our musicians to stay in Louisiana and remain a treasured cultural asset to the state; and 6
WHEREAS, as result of her and the Office of Entertainment's untiring efforts,7
Louisiana has become known as the place for all things entertainment, which has generated8
more than $2 billion in new revenue and spurred the creation of thousands of high wage9
jobs, state of the art infrastructure development and new business opportunities. 10
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana11
does hereby commend Sherri McConnell for her years of dedicated service to the people of12
the state of Louisiana and thanks her for her exemplary service. 13
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to14
Sherri McConnell.15
